Do many Christians here admit to reading Bible-bashing websites just for the pure entertainment value of them?
Which websites do you prefer and would recommend to others? (And yes, I personally enjoy skepticsannotatedbible.com — but have you found any that are less cliched and don’t simply repeat the tired old classics?)
And which websites would you recommend for the classic flat-earth-type conspiracy theories, such as "Jesus never existed" or one that was posted as a Yahoo answer just minutes ago: "Most university scholars and historians will claim that Jesus existed just because the global religion industry makes sure that they do." [Anybody who has served on a state-sponsored university faculty in the U.S. or who knows anything about secular academia will enjoy that one. After all, university religion departments are such bastions of fundamentalist piety, after all!]
Which Bible-bashing websites do you consider your favorites, especially as an aid to teaching college students the answers to the more humorous and classic "Bible errors and contradictions" claims that they will be hear again and again? (e.g."bats are not birds’, "grasshoppers don’t have four legs", Pi doesn’t equal 3, "a whale isn’t a fish", "rabbits don’t chew cud")
(I appreciate your recommendations because I found that my students definitely enjoy reading and researching the classic Bible-bashing rants — but even more so the occasional new/novel diatribe. The majority of such sites are just the usual cut-and-paste cluelessness of the under-educated but occasionally one finds something new. And that is what I’m especially looking for to add to my revised syllabus. Plus, as the U.S. becomes less and less linguistically literate (with most universities no longer requiring at least four semesters of foreign language), more of the anti-Bible gripes are simply language-related ignorance — but some of them make for excellent translation studies.)
I love the ones where Christianity is bashed for not teaching sex edu, hence all the abortions by theistic youngsters

I like reading the ones lampooning stupid christian posts, as do my christian friends:
"Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn’t possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it." for example.
I guess there are going to be idiots on both sides of the debate, its always good to laugh at idiots regardless of who’s side they are on

I know just what you mean. www.pocm.com is my favorite. Every few months or so I send them an email politely correcting them (usually embarrassingly so) on some thing or another. But in their favor, they do begrudgingly change a few things here and there. I figure after a few years I’ll have them converted altogether. LOL

Young Adult: Please Give Your Opinion!?
I know it’s not very good. I’m tired and felt like writing something.
The crisp, delicate, plastic wrapped flowers fell from my mother’s hands onto the freshly shined wood of our front porch, seeming to bounce once, attempting to reach the safety of her embrace as they were before. I was sitting beside her, neat and pristine in my pressed white dress, my hair pulled into my two signature braids, though it had a special attribute today; two ribbons, the same as my dress, and one flower tucked behind my ear. I was only five, looking at mother with round, hopefully eyes. She was wearing her sun dress, the yellow one with the stripe. I remember noting this carefully, also noticing I was instructed to stray from my normal overall attire into the third of my trio of outfits. I had three outfits, but only two I wore normally. Mother told me that was the way a girl should be – "Classic, simple, and pure." I, being the eldest daughter, received the loving stroke of her brush through my hair, and the touch of her pearls to my neck. I had a nice, mother-outfit for church, which consisted of a red velvet button up top with a simple black skirt and my old white sneakers, spray painted completely charcoal. Sometimes, if I had cleaned the dishes extra well, or had picked a corn that was just so, she would shuffle her feet into her bedroom, emerging presenting a fist full of her only jewelry. I would look mother-worthy, with my outfit and the pearls, which added a class to my outfit I had never experienced before. For us, for the time, it was hard to come by.
I remember then, staring up to her, as the roses came tumbling to the floor, and as mother followed, wondering what Charles was doing, picking corn, washing the house, tending a garden that was barely swinging by, or perhaps dressed nicely, sitting on a bench, like me. It was a ridiculous notion; that I should think so much of just another six year old boy, but even as mother fell and as I leaned to her, his shining locks came to mind, and his willingness to share snacks aroused my affection.
The man in the blue coat bent down, wrinkling his perfect pants, his handsome face, before so composed, ready to face her, now streaked and lined with worry. I wish I could say mother’s face looked up, slightly flushed and mighty embarrassed, like when she forgot to tuck Eleanor into her bed and I questioned her on this, acting the mother part. But my mother’s face did not lift, her body did not move, and I sat beside her on the porch of my small, pale blue house, letting silent tears stream down my soft cheeks and my mind race anxiously in fifteen different directions.
The narrator is crying because the mother is hurt or dead on the floor of the porch.
Yes I did not even use .1% of my vocabulary…it was at quite a low level in my opinion.
Too much description, mostly towards the beginning.
And if this was written for teens, the language is a bit high, if that makes sense. Like it annoys the reader a bit because you aren’t telling the story normally enough for the reader to understand easily.
If that makes any sense.
It’s a little confusing towards the end, too. I didn’t get exactly why the kid was crying.
Overall, it’s pretty good. But some of it’s awkward for me… Maybe because it tells of a time when the narrator was five.
Sweatshirt and Skinny Jeans Girl | Jan 31, 2010
I think it’s really good. I didn’t have any trouble picturing the scene or the characters, and it was pretty interesting.
Edit: I’m not completely disagreeing with the other poster about the vocabulary being too advanced for some teenagers, but I’m fourteen and I didn’t have any trouble reading that. Some people my age would, but everybody’s on a different reading level (just throwing that out there).

Spiritual/Religious dreams? Connecting to God?
I haven’t had it in a long time, but I’ve been thinking of it a lot lately.. I think there is some kind of meaning.
It used to be recurring, and happen almost every week to every night.
It starts in a car.. Going East, on a long road in the plains. The sky is ominously stormy, the clouds twist and there is always a hand .. reaching down. There seems to always have been tornados involved. I remember always being in the passenger seat in the car watching the clouds and the clouds shaping into a hand almost as if to reach out to me.
The last of this series I’ve had was exactly the same, except instead of the hand. it was the face of a man with a long beard, long hair, and serious face formed by the clouds. It resembled either God or Jesus if anything.. then i woke up, and no dreams since then.
In the past I have been obsessed with the weather if that has anything to do with it.
Help please. What meaning might this dream have?
it means you want to believe in Him. Consider repenting..

You feel helpless while marching towards the wrath that you have attributed to God. It seems you are afraid of Judgement Day. I do not think the locale is of any significance in this. But the message is clear. You "know" what is waiting for you on Judgement Day, and you feel helpless to change that. But God’s grace will be readily available for you to accept. You can never go too far for Him to not reach you in love.

Who sings the "TV to talk about" song from the CW?
I can’t find who sings this song. There were two questions on Y! Answers about this but they were deleted for some reason. It’s not like there is one that answers the question that hasn’t been deleted. Maybe it’s a conspiracy, but does anyone know the singer or group who does the song? It sounds a little like Ke$ha but I doubt it is.

Would this prevent me from from getting a top secret security clearance MOS in the Army?
Long story short, when I was 15, I trespassed into a vacant school and got caught. I was hoping to become a counterintelligence agent or another job like it. And, if my crime won’t prevent me from getting into this field, what should I major in when I go to college? Military science? Or something else?
BTW I’m a sophomore in high school right now with a 4.05 grade point average.
But being a CI agent is not an entry-level position. So doesn’t that mean you have to go to college?
You can get a Top Secret clearance as long as you are honest and open with your answers.
A Military Occupational Specialty, an MOS, is for enlisted soldiers and you don’t need to go to college for this. It does help, college always helps in any job.
Military Science is known as ROTC, Reserve Officer Training Corps, or the officer’s training program for the military service (Army, Navy, Marines or Air Force).
It sounds like you would rather be an officer and that is an outstanding choice. If you work hard enough before college you can get an ROTC scholarship which pays for much if not all your schooling and gives you a bit of spending money.
You might want to also consider a Service academy like West Point, the Air Force or Naval Academy.

no more than going to jail for unpaid parking tickets, but it will come up looking into a background check…shouldn’t hold you back though……igot the tickets didid the time got the clearance
blcad82 | Feb 01, 2010
Trespassing at age 15 will not disqualify you.
You will need to be careful, however. Don’t do drugs! Don’t get into a lot of debit, don’t miss payments if you have a credit card or a car payment, and don’t hang out with criminals.
As for what degree in college, that’s up to debate. At the moment, computers and accounting are big at the FBI, but as trends in crime change, so do the requirements of the intelligence community. Your best bet would be to go to the web page of the agency you want to join, and look in their recruiting section. They will have basic advice there, and they may even have an e-mail address and or phone number you can call and talk to someone.
If you want to get into the military, talk to the recruiter of the branch you want. Not only can he answer basic questions, but can also let you talk to people who are actually in the field doing what you want to do.

If you are an American citizen and aren’t a felon…as well as a few other things they look at.
It isn’t so much that you got into trouble once when you were (are) a kid…it is more about if you try to hide it or kept getting into trouble.
There is a good chance that you can still get a clearance, but you have to walk a straight line from now on and stay out of trouble.
barbamatt | Feb 01, 2010
One misdemeanor charge is not likely to keep you out of the field.
Study biology or chemistry or anthropology or computer science or something along those lines.

suggest ideas for a comps sci student.?
I’m doing my 2nd year engineering in computers science. I am pretty good with C programming and data structures. I am learning C++ and Java now. I am also learning about data mining.
So can anyone suggest any other things i may look into? or learn or can i try any project works or anything. What other things can i try to do to improve myself technically?
Have you tried interfacing with a database such as MySQL?
Bryan | Feb 02, 2010
As you know C,C++ and doing Java too.All you are doing is the best.and c,c++ is the base of all languages. If you want to do more then learn database too.And don’t forget to do certification of all the courses you are doing. It will be very beneficial for you.
Smith | Feb 02, 2010
You should look into learning about reverse engineering. You would need to combine your c/c++ skills and a general understanding of ASM code, but it will teach you a lot about executable file structure and system architecture. Its not illegal in most cases, and its a marketable skill that most programmers do not have.
Beau | Feb 02, 2010
Why don’t you try for back end i.e. database related like Oracle or SQL server.
